Productive Entertaining Area

This family were keen self taught gardeners and DIYers. They requested a design that they could build for themselves in an unloved area at the end of their garden. The space is next to a recently completed home office and included a large spoil heap of soil that had been excavated as part ot he build. They wanted somewhere to sit outside and entertain in a spot that enjoys evening sun, and somewhere to grow their own fruit and veg.
The final design fits a lot into a small space, while not feeling cluttered. I provided sketches based on the same, functional layout, with different design details and materials to choose from so the clients could create a space that reflected their personal style.
Gabions act as a retaining wall behind which the soil heap can become an area for woodland planting. The gabion wall can also add extra seating or a worktop for barbecues. Raised beds provide deep soil to pack in fruit and veg plants and the 'vertical space' provided by a new fence allows for a wall-trained fruit tree underplanted with herbs. Behind the office is space for a compost bins and storage for occasional seating and barbecue.
Design supplied with a detailed landscaping plan and materials specification for self build.
